Paul Holleran has confirmed that George Ward has joined divisional rivals Buxton FC after an undisclosed compensation fee was agreed between the two clubs.
George joined the Brakes from Barwell following Leamington's promotion and took to National League North football like a duck to water, going on to be a near ever-present in the side - making 49 appearances, only bettered by Callum Hawkins.
The centre back scored five goals during his time in Warwickshire, including an important leveller against Kidderminster Harriers and a stunning bicycle kick against Scarborough Athletic.
Leamington manager Paul Holleran said "Sadly I have to announce that George Ward has decided to leave the football club and sign for Buxton. Naturally, we are disappointed to see him leave. I did everything I could to keep him but he is moving to a full-time club which is every young player's dream.
"George did really well for us last season and we were hoping to continue to work with him in his development in the coming season, but it was not to be. We wish him all the best in his career going forward and he will always be welcome back at Leamington FC."
George added "This was a very tough decision as I loved every second of last year but I felt this could be the right step for me with what Buxton brings.
"I wish the players, staff and most importantly fans at the club the very best as they were all part of making last season such an enjoyable one."
We wish George all the best for his future development, and echo the manager's comments that George and his family will always be welcome at Your Co-op Community Stadium.
