Sam joined Leamington in September 2020 having made the decision to leave Notts County, where he was named Young Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons, in order to get regular game time. The persuasive words of Paul Holleran and a glowing recommendation from former Brakes and Magpies striker Colby Bishop convinced him that Leamington was the place to further his career. 

Sam began his career at local club Dunkirk in Nottingham, also featuring for Burton Albion before getting his first taste of senior football in Dunkirk’s first team in the Midland League. Notts picked him up in 2016 and he quickly impressed, making his first team debut early in 2017 before successful loan spells at Basford United and Grantham Town. He made 28 appearances and scored three goals across two seasons in the County first team.
