British Gas Business Football League
British Gas Business

The Opposition

Just who are the clubs that Leamington will face in the British Gas Business Football League Midland Division? Some are old friends...some will perhaps be unfamiliar. Here is a complete guide.

Key to this table
2006-07 league performance Remarks Club website Location

Aylesbury United
The Ducks finished last season strongly with 7 wins in last 8. Some internal turbulence led to appointment of former assistant, Tony Thompson, as team manager in June 2007.
6th with 71 points Did not progress beyond first fixtures of FA Trophy or FA Cup www.aylesburyunited.co.uk Streetmap
Satnav:HP19 9WZ

Barton Rovers
A tough season, which included a change of management in December 2006, found the Rovers narrowly avoiding relegation. Only one league win in April - away to Sutton Coldfield Town.
20th with 42 points Did not progress beyond first fixtures of FA Trophy or FA Cup www.bartonrovers.co.uk Streetmap
Satnav:MK45 4SD

Bedworth United
Would we describe the Greenbacks as old friends? Of course we would. One of our geographically closer rivals in this league, Bedworth had a disappointing 2006-07, largely a result of indifferent form at home.
16th with 47 points Adam Kinder top scored with 18 goals. www.bedworthunited.co.uk Streetmap
Satnav:CV12 8NN

Berkhamsted Town
Despite finishing in a relegation spot, the Lilywhites live to fight another day.
21st with 37 points Goal difference of minus 44 tells its own tale www.berkhamstedtownfc.com Streetmap
Satnav:HP4 2AA

Bishops Cleeve
Do not be confused when you arrive and find you are just outside Southam. Bet you didn't know there were two Southams. Neither did we. But that's where the Villagers play.
13th with 46 points Up and down results led inevitably to midtable website Streetmap
Satnav:GL52 3PD

Chasetown
The Scholars will be well known to Brakes fans. Promoted from the MFA the season ahead of us, Chasetown finished in a creditable 3rd place. Better away form and they might have been pressing for promotion.
3rd with 75 points Excellent season after promotion www.chasetownfc.com Streetmap
Satnav:WS7 3QL

Cinderford Town
The only Southern League club (or the only club) from the area of the Forest of Dean, Town will make for one of the longer and prettier away journeys for Brakes fans
9th with 64 points Up and down results led inevitably to midtable www.cinderfordtownfc.co.uk Streetmap
Satnav:GL14 2QH

Chesham United
The Generals are joining the Midlands Division from South & West in the restructuring of the leagues
15th with 57 points Too many home defeats to be pressing the leaders www.cheshamunited.co.uk Streetmap
Satnav:HP5 1NE

Dunstable Town
The only Midland Division side for whom George Best - yes, the George Best - played. Check out their great "Once in a blue moon" website

11th with 60 points Chris Marsh top scored with 25 goals www.dunstabletownfc.org.uk Streetmap
Satnav:LU6 1BB

Evesham United
A pleasant trip to apple, asparagus and damson country. The Robins played all of 2006-07 at Worcester City's ground and did well. Sure to be among the front runners again this season
5th with 72 points One of only 100 Community Charter Standard clubs in the country www.eveshamunitedfc.com Streetmap
Satnav:WR1 1QT
(At Worcester)

Leighton Town
Don't let the Luton postcode fool you. The club is based in Leighton Buzzard, not far from rivals Dunstable.

18th with 44 points An indifferent season in which unconvincing home form led to a lowly finish www.leightontownfc.co.uk Streetmap
Satnav:LU7 1RX

Malvern Town
Brakes fans will recall Malvern's performance in their promotion from the MFA.
17th with 47 points Struggled as 11 home defeats made for a tough season no club website, only Malvern Gazette coverage

Romulus
A club that needs no introduction. Leamington's Christmas 4-3 win over Romulus at the New Windmill and 1-0 win away were instrumental in our achievement of the MFA championship in 2006-07
Promoted Finished as runners-up, 17 points behind Leamington, in MFA last season website Shares Sutton Coldfield's ground

Rothwell Town
Ex Portsmouth and Everton player Alan Biley was appointed manager in 2006 but now replaced by Ian Jackson who appears to be signing some useful players for the Bones. The odd club nickname derives from the bone crypt in the town’s Holy Trinity Church, one of only three in the country
10th with 61 points Only 5 points from last 30 took the Bones out of contention www.rothwelltownfc.com Streetmap
Satnav:NN4 6EZ

Rushall Olympic
Bob Green's appointment in May 2006 marks a return to management for the ex-Blakenall boss after 18 months out of the game following his last managerial role at Oldbury United. He replaced long-term Rushall stalwart John Allen
15th with 54 points Have lost star player Tim Jackson to Stourport Swifts in close season unofficial site Streetmap
Satnav:WS4 1LJ

Stourbridge
The Glassboys are another club we know well. Promoted from MFA season before last the club had a respectable Southern League season and will be looking to improve on it this year
7th with 66 points Too many lost points at home to be a real force www.stourbridgefc.com Streetmap
Satnav:DY8 4HN

Stourport Swifts
Escaped relegation by an Act of God. Swifts lost 26 out of 42 and ended the season with the wooden spoon
22nd with 34 points Disaster of a season and lucky to be here no club website, only Kidderminster Shuttle coverage Streetmap
Satnav:DY13 0AA

Sutton Coldfield Town
The ground we know well, the club we do not. The Royals seem set to make amends for an indifferent 2006-07 by signing some useful players from the likes of Boldmere and Evesham
12th with 57 points An up and down season saw Town finish plumb centre www.suttoncoldfieldtownfc.com Streetmap
Satnav:B72 1NL

Willenhall Town
Another good, consistent season for Willenhall and likely to be up there again
4th with 72 points Can't say much as club website news has not been updated since 2006 www.willenhalltownfc.com Satnav:WV13 3AP

Woodford United
Have lost three key players to Brakes in close season. Have they replaced them? Don't know
7th with 65 points Can't say much as club website has died www.wufc.net site is kaput Woodford Halse
