Leamington Lions 3 Headless Cross 0

Report submitted by Russell Davis

10 February 2008 , New Windmill Ground.

On a glorious sunny afternoon Lions Ladies turned on the style to take all three points.  The Lions started brightly and were in total control from the off. Sophie was sharp and plying early pressure from the front.  Carly was causing the Headless defence all sorts of trouble every time she attacked them. The shots started to rain in on the away keeper.  Sam went close on numerous occasions.  Corner after corner and still we couldn't score.  Then when we thought we were never going to score, a great move involving Stacey, Sam set up Sophie who placed the ball neatly in the bottom right hand corner.

There were many attacks and shots were flying in from everywhere.  By now the Lions defence started to join in the attack where possible.  Kirsty Lloyd started a great move down the right, Carly played in Sophie who set up Sam, only to see her shot fly over.

Second half started in similar fashion, Lions introduced Sharon for Shorty on the left.  Headless defending as the game had started, and with a poor free kick Stacey fired a scorcher just over the bar.  With every attack the Lions looked like scoring.

Charlie Blunsdon set up goal of the game, turning defending into attacking.  She split the Headless defence with a diagonal ball, finding Carly on the attack to shoot
low and across the advancing keeper. 2-0.

Lions then introduced Katy and Charlotte, who immediately made an impact.  Both forcing the Headless defence to make mistakes.  Katy then drove a great ball into the box, Sam fired a great shot at the keeper, the keeper couldn't hold on to the ball and Sharon Williams popped up to slot the ball home and make it 3-0.

Lions Manager Russell Davis said "There were plenty of positives to be taken out of today's performance.  Today we were in total control and played some nice football.  The Lions are at home next week against Knowle".

We are also looking at starting a reserve team next season, with the U16's coming through.  If there are any coaches interested in joining the lions please contact Raff on 07917 445594 or Stuart on 07970 876569.
