Ladies 0 Leamington Lions 0
Report submitted by Russell Davis
20 January 2008, Dudley.
Leamington Lions made the long trip to Dudley in confident
mood, being ubeaten in the league since October. Regulars
missing through injury and illness gave the manager a chance
to give some of the fringe players a chance. Katy
Sheffield moved up front along side Sam Morris and Abbie Foster
came in on the right.
Lions started brightly with good
early pressure. A great move down the right, followed
by a great cross from Abbie, found Stacey who hit a thunder
bolt only to find the Dudley keeper in good form. More
good work from the midfield duo Stacey and Katie carved open
the Dudley defence. Katie soon attacked the back four
and hit a great shot, but only to see it soar over the bar. Sharon
Williams produced a great cross to find Stacey who brought
another fine save out of the away keeper. The Lions continued
to pile on the pressure, with wave after wave of attack. Was
it going to be another one of those games?
Dudley were playing the long ball game that most teams
in this Division adopt. But,
with the Lions team defending as a unit, there was no way through
using this approach and Vicky "safe
hands" Busby enjoyed another quiet game between the Lions posts.
The second half started in similar fashion. Vicky, when
finally called upon, was as reliable as ever. Turning
defending into attack after catching an indirect free kick,
she quickly released an early ball which found Sam, who released
Sharon, who in turn produced a great cross which found Larry
who hit a scorcher over the bar. In poor conditions the
Lions were producing some great flowing football and continued
to improve in all departments. The only thing lacking
was the final product.
Manager Russell Davis was still
full of praise as the team kept another clean sheet, saying “The
Lions should take credit on this unbeaten run and remain confident
as we continue to build this Ladies team".
Player
of the match was Sharon Williams, who worked tirelessly up
and down the left flank.
