James Mace must surely rate as one of Paul Holleran’s best signings for the club. Joining initially on trial in the summer of 2011, he is now second only to Josh Blake in the club's list of appearance makers since 2000, having passed 400 games. for the club in our 1-0 win over Southport on February 22, 2020. Unfortunately he has had to wait to see whether he can break Blake's record, as two games later he suffered an ACL injury in our final game of the curtailed 2019/20 season at Guiseley. Having undergone an operation he has battled back to full fitness and has spent time at our Southern League neighbours Bromsgrove Sporting in order to get back to full match fitness. He then returned to Leamington, and after the departure of Kyle Morrison to AFC Fylde, slotted seamlessly back into central defence. He topped his comeback off with the third and clinching goal in the Birmingham Senior Cup Final against Stourbridge at Villa Park in May.
At home across the defensive positions, James has spent the majority of his time at Leamington at right back and in central defence. His previous clubs include Rushall Olympic, Coleshill Town, Bedworth United, Atherstone Town and Hinckley United.
