Paul Holleran has taken his total of new signings this summer to five with the with the arrival of one of the Southern League’s brightest young talents in Liam Canavan.
Most recently at Kettering Town, Canavan joins fellow new boys Joe Clarke, Colby Bishop, Junior English and Dan Quigley as Brakes continue preparations for their return to Step 2 football.
Equally at home in midfield or as a striker, the 22 year old scored 42 goals in all competitions for Thurnby Nirvana in 2014/15 as they finished runners up to AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the United Counties League. This earned him a move to Nuneaton Town for the following season. He joined Kettering on loan early in the campaign, and made 80 appearances for the Poppies over the last two seasons, scoring 16 goals, one of which, a stunning long range volley against Biggleswade Town last season, went viral and was also shown on Soccer AM.
His career began at now sadly defunct Hinckley United, where he broke through the Youth ranks into the first team in the Conference North in 2012/13. He made 21 appearances and scored 5 goals for the Knitters before the club was liquidated just 10 games into the 2013/14 campaign. Liam was part of the team for their final game at Chesham United.
‘Liam Canavan is a player that we’ve come across a lot over the last two years’, said Brakes boss Holleran. ‘When we’ve come up against him he has always done well, he’s a good size and an energetic midfield player who I think will add another dimension to the squad. We’re delighted to have him on board. He’s still only 22, so I’m sure there’s more to come from him.’
We are delighted to welcome Liam to Leamington Football Club, and wish him a successful time with us.
